MIDI Window

The MIDI window is an overlay of a photo of the midi device in use. The controls are configure in the MIDI config file (referenced in the config.xml). See Configuration files for a description of the XML format, ( an example is in the timelinerc.tar.gz on the Downloads page ) .

A MIDI device can have multiple maps the are assignable to a numeric key.

Top tool bar

The tool bar at the top has various buttons the are described below:-

Map buttons

  • Each configured MIDI device has a button (e.g. OSCMIDI:0) click the button show the map for the device.
  • The orange + adds a new control map, the name is typed in the input box in the main timeline window. this will add a button to select the map.
  • The green + adds a new note map, the name is typed in the input box in the main timeline window. this will add a button to select the map.

Display buttons

  • The -P+ button is for changing the Part (+/- increment/decrement) this only alplied o the display - it does not change the part on the device (although it probably should)
  • The buttons in the middle select the data to be overlayed on the various controls.
    • N shows the name of the control (as configured in the MIDI config)
    • X shows the number of the controlrn
    • O shows the OSC/Expression on the control
    • D shows the current data value
    • S shows the settings
    • C shows ?
  • The -O+ button is for changing the Octave (+/- increment/decrement) - it does not change the octave on the device

Controller overlay

  • Each MIDI control has information overlayed on it, the yellow circles and squares show the type of control, hovering over the control and rolling the mouse wheel changes the valuie just a it would by using the actual control on the device.
  • Also hovering over the control displays a red + which can be clicked to add an assignment to a OSC message. The control string is eneterd in the main timeline window. (clicking on the box at the start in the text input shows the midi control helper this make an expression in the correct format)
  • Configured OSC messages are also displayed, right clicking in them allows the expression the be edited in the main window.
